  1. Can you receive financial aid if you are a U.S. citicen even though your parents arent, and they dont have any irs forms or w2’s?

    1. Yes you can as long as you are a citizen of the us. U have the right to financial aid due to your citizenship. You would simply need to complete the information for your parents income, and then when flagged for verification, submit the info the financial aid office requests.

        1. Hi Brittany,

One of the issues with acupuncture is a distinct lack of financial aid for this needed degree field. However, you are in luck as having a BSN means you likely work or can work as an RN/LPN at a hospital, or for the military or federal govt. The Military, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and many large hospitals have tuition reimbursement programs for employees that can pay for your grad degree. However all of these do have a work component attached to them. Would any of these be up your alley?

    1. Hello,

There are plenty of weird ones, such as the Duck Tape Scholarship Contest where someone designs a prom dress out of Duct Tape, but it depends often on what your interests are and what you intended major might be. I recommend the Ultimate Scholarship Guide 2013 by the Tannabe’s.

    1. Hello Genine,

One of the first issues many miss is the Ned dot absolutely maximize deductions! Deductions are what drops AGI and most leave thousands on the table each year, first go back and review last years return for any lost deductions and consider refiguring the total AGI, and use a professional to file in the future. Medical bills that exceed 2% threshold need to be written off because for many it can really make a difference in the final AGI calculation. Let me ask, has any major financial event happened in the last year such as a lay-off or work stoppage happened in your household in the last year?

      1. I know you can not possibly list all dedustions, but what are some examples of deductions we can claim. You entioned medical bills I was also wondering about education tax credit and recently found out about the American Opportuniy Credit would this be the most beneficial education credit to take?

    1. Hello Sarah,

Yes actually, they are often called residential scholarships. However, they are often only offered at universities for living on campus not off. However, most unrestricted scholarships allow for living expenses as well.

  6. I qualify for the highest amount of grant money. But I would like to know could the cost of my tuition effect the amount of aid I will get from the government (like if I end up taking the cheapest class at my college)?
